Integrative Psychotherapy with Hypnotherapy in Berlin

Support for Anxiety, Panic, Phobias, and Trauma-Related Symptoms

In Berlin-Charlottenburg and online

If anxiety, panic, or trauma-related symptoms take up too much space in your life, integrative psychotherapy with hypnotherapeutic elements can offer a careful way to work with the mind, body, nervous system, and inner experience.

In my practice in Berlin-Charlottenburg and online, I support people who want more calm, clarity, self-trust, and room to respond.

My main focus is on anxiety, anxiety disorders, panic attacks, phobias, trauma-related symptoms, and emotional overwhelm.

Hypnotherapy can be a valuable part of therapeutic work. What matters is the professional framework in which it is used.

In my work, hypnotherapy is embedded in a broader integrative psychotherapy process. It is used where it fits your concern, your emotional and physical capacity, your goals, and your current situation.

Therapeutic hypnosis is very different from stage hypnosis. In this work, you remain involved, responsive, and respected in your own pace and boundaries.

At the center of my work is one essential question:

What do you need now, so that more safety, clarity, self-trust, and room to respond can become possible again?

You do not need to know the method in advance.

You do not need to decide beforehand whether hypnotherapy is the right approach for you.

If you are new to psychotherapy or hypnotherapy, we will clarify together what feels appropriate, understandable, and safe for you.

Who This Page Is For

This page is for you if you would like to understand how hypnotherapy is used in my work, why it is embedded in an integrative therapeutic framework, and how an individual therapeutic process can develop from there.

You may be interested in hypnosis because you struggle with anxiety, panic, inner restlessness, stressful memories, or physical alarm reactions.

You may already understand a great deal about yourself and still feel that insight alone has not yet created enough change.

In such situations, hypnotherapeutic work can offer a helpful access point:

  • to inner images
  • to resources
  • to body awareness
  • to self-regulation
  • to new experiences of safety
  • to a calmer relationship with your nervous system

Hypnotherapy Within an Integrative Psychotherapy Framework

Hypnotherapy uses trance, focused attention, inner imagery, and therapeutic suggestions within a professional therapeutic framework.

Trance is a natural state.

Many people know light trance from everyday life:

  • while reading
  • while listening to music
  • while daydreaming
  • while jogging
  • while dancing
  • or during moments of deep concentration

In hypnotherapy, this natural capacity is used in a focused way.

It can help strengthen inner resources, activate unconscious search processes, and prepare new experiences of safety, calm, and self-trust.

Hypnotherapy is about more than relaxation.

It can support access to inner images, body sensations, emotions, beliefs, and resources that are often less accessible in ordinary everyday awareness.

How I Work: Integrative, Careful, and Tailored to You

Contemporary hypnotherapy is, in my work, part of a larger therapeutic process.

It is especially valuable when it is meaningfully combined with other therapeutic approaches.

Depending on your concern, the process may include elements from:

  • behavioral therapy
  • cognitive approaches
  • psychodynamic approaches
  • Gestalt therapy
  • psychodrama
  • parts work
  • neuropsychology
  • emotion-focused work
  • body-based and somatic approaches
  • breathing, relaxation, and self-regulation
  • creative media and imagery
  • systemic approaches
  • hypnotherapy and Hypnobalancing™

This creates a therapeutic process that is tailored to your situation.

The method serves the person.

The therapeutic work follows what provides support, orientation, and development in each phase of the process.

What to Expect in a Session

In a session, we first clarify your concern and your current state.

We look at what is burdening you, when it appears, how it affects your body, your emotions, your thoughts, your behavior, and your everyday life.

Then we decide together what is most helpful at this point.

The focus may be stabilization.
It may be understanding inner patterns.
It may be body awareness.
It may be imagery.
It may be trance work.
It may be practical steps for everyday life.

A solid therapeutic process is shaped by several important factors:

  • a shared understanding of your concern
  • a goal that fits your values and your life
  • a protected therapeutic setting
  • an appropriate pace
  • stabilization and resource activation
  • a view of body, mind, relationships, and life circumstances
  • your active participation within your possibilities
  • integration of new experiences into everyday life

Change becomes more stable when it fits your life.

That is why I also take your environment, relationships, values, previous experiences, and current burdens into account in the therapeutic work.

Hypnobalancing™ in My Work

Hypnobalancing™ is my term for a careful combination of hypnotherapeutic work, resource activation, body awareness, self-regulation, and integrative therapeutic elements.

The focus is on inner balance, emotional stabilization, resource activation, and new experiences in dealing with stressful reactions.

Hypnobalancing™ can be especially helpful when inner images, body reactions, emotions, protective patterns, or unconscious processes play an important role.

Possible areas of focus include:

  • more inner calm and stability
  • strengthening inner resources
  • access to helpful inner images
  • changing burdensome patterns
  • improving self-regulation
  • building more trust in your body
  • developing new options for everyday life

Hypnobalancing™ is always embedded in an integrative therapeutic framework.

It is used where it is appropriate, fitting, and helpful.

Therapeutic Hypnosis Is Serious Therapeutic Work

Many people first associate hypnosis with images from stage shows, entertainment, or media.

Therapeutic hypnosis is something very different.

In therapeutic work, you remain involved.

Your perception matters.
Your responses matter.
Your boundaries matter.
Your pace matters.

Hypnotherapy can be powerful because it addresses the person on several levels.

Many issues show up in thoughts, in the body, in emotions, in inner images, in memories, and in automatic reactions.

This is why trance work can be helpful when intellectual understanding has already explained a lot, while old patterns still remain felt in the body, in emotions, or in behavior.

How Hypnotherapy Can Support Anxiety and Trauma-Related Symptoms

Many people experience trance as a different way of accessing their inner world.

The body can become calmer.
Attention can become more focused.
Inner images can become clearer.
Resources can become easier to feel.
New perspectives can emerge.

This can support the therapeutic process.

With anxiety and trauma-related symptoms, the focus is often on calming the nervous system, building inner safety, and preparing new experiences.

With limiting beliefs, the focus may be on recognizing old inner patterns and developing new possibilities.

With physical alarm reactions, the focus may be on strengthening self-regulation and offering the body more reliable signals of safety.

Areas of My Hypnotherapeutic Work

I specialize in anxiety, anxiety disorders, and trauma-related symptoms.

Hypnotherapeutic elements may be helpful in areas such as:

  • anxiety and anxiety disorders
  • panic attacks
  • specific phobias
  • social anxiety
  • inner restlessness and overthinking
  • trauma-related stress
  • developmental trauma
  • physical alarm reactions
  • distressing inner images
  • self-worth issues
  • stress and overwhelm
  • sexuality-related concerns when anxiety, pressure, or inner blocks are involved
  • eating-related concerns when anxiety, stress regulation, or inner patterns play a role

The decisive question always remains:

What fits your concern and your current situation?

Systemic Elements in Hypnotherapy

People live within relationships, roles, families, professional contexts, and social systems.

That is why it can be important to consider these connections as well.

Systemic elements can help clarify interactions and patterns:

What changes when you change?
Which inner or outer forces support you?
Which expectations, roles, or relationship patterns are involved?
Where do new possibilities emerge?

In hypnotherapeutic work, these questions can be combined with inner imagery, perspective shifts, solution-oriented trance work, and resource activation.

This can help widen fixed perspectives.

New options for action and resolution can become visible.

Systemic Questions as a Therapeutic Tool

Systemic questions are used to open new perspectives.

They can help create distance from the problem, invite different viewpoints, and reveal possibilities that may have been overlooked.

Examples include:

  • circular questions
  • scaling questions
  • hypothetical questions
  • solution-oriented questions
  • paradoxical questions
  • metaphorical questions

These questions are more than a request for information.

They can stimulate new thoughts, inner search processes, and additional possibilities for action.

In combination with hypnotherapeutic work, they can be especially valuable.

Preparing for the First Session

With your appointment confirmation, you will receive information about how to prepare.

In general, it can be helpful to reflect on a few questions beforehand:

What is currently burdening you most?
When does the issue appear?
Which situations do you avoid?
What have you already tried?
What would you like to gain from therapeutic work?
What experience do you already have with therapy, hypnosis, relaxation, or self-regulation?
Are there any physical or medical issues that should be clarified beforehand?

You do not need to fully explain or perfectly organize your concern in advance.

The first session is for orientation.

Together, we clarify what makes sense for you and which therapeutic framework may be appropriate.

FAQ about hypnotherapy

There is a much public misunderstanding about the nature of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. A lot of questions and answers collected during years of practicing hypnotherapy are available in German and will be translated step by step.

Is one session enough?

Occasionally, people ask me for a quick fix for their anxiety or other problems in one session. Some of them suffer for years and already spent a lot of time in therapy. It is as though they think I have a magic trick to make everything immediately better. That would be so nice, but it isn’t realistic.

Especially, overcoming anxiety requires effort. There is no way around that. I offer effective psychotherapy instead of a magic trick. I know that those who undertake the challenge and make the effort are rewarded with reduced anxiety, increased confidence, and a more fulfilling life.

Psychotherapy usually needs a series of sessions and can often be completed within a few months. Some therapies are shorter still, and others may take a few months. The length is dependent on the type of therapy and the type of the issue, as well as the presence of complicating factors.

One good predictor of the duration of therapy is how well the client and the therapist get along with one another after two or three meetings. If they are comfortable with one another, the therapy is often more efficient and successful.

Are there drawbacks of hypnosis and hypnotherapy?

Here are some thoughts about drawbacks of hypnosis. Hypnotherapy is not appropriate for someone who has or had psychotic symptoms, such as hallucinations and delusions, or for someone who is using drugs or alcohol.

Hypnotherapy shouldn’t be used for pain control before a medical doctor has evaluated the person for any physical disorder that might require medical or surgical treatment.

Some therapists use hypnosis to recover possibly repressed memories they believe are linked to the person’s mental disorder. However, hypnosis with an inexperienced hypnotherapist also poses a risk of creating false memories — usually as a result of unintended suggestions by the therapist.

The use of hypnotherapy for certain mental disorders, such as dissociative disorders, is controversial. Ask your medical doctor or psychiatrist to make up your mind.

Read the details about contraindications of hypnosis.

Can someone hypnotize me against my will?

The official answer is no. You have to be fully receptive to be hypnotized. You could have some resistance, but if you do not want to be hypnotized, you will not be.

Can anyone be hypnotized?

Pretty much anyone can be hypnotized as long as they are willing. Since hypnosis is a natural state of mind which people are in every day, anyone of normal intelligence who chooses to be hypnotized can be hypnotized. There may be a few exceptions, such as people on certain medications or people with neurological problems. Those who claim they can’t be hypnotized are simply choosing not to be hypnotized.

Am I under the total control of the hypnotherapist?

When I am in a hypnotic state, does the hypnotherapist have complete control over me? You are fully aware of what the hypnotherapist is saying. Your conscious mind is present, and you can come out of a trance anytime you choose. Your subconscious mind is also very protective of you and would not accept any suggestions that would violate your moral or ethical codes. You can reject whatever is being said to you. You can actually lie in hypnosis.

Is it possible to getting lost in trance?

Lost in trance? No. Firstly, you are in a perfectly natural state of mind and conscious the whole time. Even if you were to drift off to sleep, you would simply wake up just like you would from a nap.

Will I lose control in hypnosis?

Question: Do I give up my free will when I am in a hypnotic state?

Answer: You are fully aware of what is going on. In fact, you are more focused on your surroundings and what is going on in the here-and-now.

Do I have to believe in hypnosis in order for it to work for me?

Not really. You don’t have to believe in hypnosis in order for it to work for you, but you do have to be willing to give it a chance in order for it to work. Wonderful results have been achieved by people who didn’t believe in hypnosis. And it’s not unusual for people to believe that they weren’t actually hypnotized when they were.

Is hypnosis safe?

In over two hundred years of recorded hypnosis history, there is no documented case of anyone being hurt with hypnosis. Hypnosis is as safe as daydreaming!

Will I forget or remember what happened during the session?

If there isn’t a good reason to utilize amnesia, you can remember all details of a session, and certainly everything you need to remember. However, because you are in a drowsy state, your memory of some details may fade rather quickly, as often happens with dreams. You might remember more details pertaining to the session afterward. Most people go through a natural integration phase.

How can hypnosis help me?

Hypnosis is just a tool to create better suggestibility or bypass the analytical mind. Hypnosis helps you get in touch with more conscious awareness and sense of your body. Hypnosis is effective in addressing relationship issues, self-esteem, addictions, health issues, stress and anxiety, and other unwanted habits and behaviors. Many approved methods are even more effective in a trance state. Trance makes the therapeutic process much more intense.

Do I have to go into a deep trance state?

Only a light to medium hypnosis state is needed for hypnosis to be effective. Good results can occur with a light state. The most important factor in an effective hypnosis session is the level of desire of the client. If a person’s desire is strong, and they have a willingness to enter into a relaxed hypnotic state, the chances of it being a success are excellent. However, deep trance states induced with techniques like Deep Hypnobalancing can be astonishingly effective, for example when the goal is to regenerate as fast as possible.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state that everyone experiences several times a day. It is like being in a pleasant daydreaming state. Or like that wonderful deep relaxation, you feel right before dropping off to sleep. And since the conscious mind is in the background resting a bit while you’re doing hypnosis, you can feel quite refreshed and revitalized after a session. It is a special state of the mind in which the body is relaxed, and the mind can pay attention to inner experience without criticism or judgment. You may have experienced these light trance-like states of mind during a long drive, meditation, watching a movie, or just daydreaming.

Because it feels wonderful to be in a deep trance, many clients enjoy being in a trance so much that they are curious if there are also other ways to utilize it.
