One of the often asked questions of clients is, “Is one session enough?”

Is one session enough? 

 

Occasionally, people ask me for a quick fix for their anxiety or other problems in one session. Some of them suffer for years and already spent a lot of time in therapy. It is as though they think I have a magic trick to make everything immediately better. That would be so nice, but it isn’t realistic.

Especially overcoming anxiety requires effort. There is no way around that. I offer effective psychotherapy instead of a magic trick. I know that those who undertake the challenge and make the effort are rewarded with reduced anxiety, increased confidence, and more fulfilling life.

Psychotherapy usually needs a series of sessions and can often be completed within a few sessions. Some therapies are shorter, and others may take a few months. The length is dependent on the type of therapy and the type of the issue, as well as the presence of complicating factors.

One good predictor of the duration of therapy is how well the client and the therapist get along with one another after two or three meetings. If they are comfortable with one another, the therapy is often more efficient and successful.
