Authoritative interventions

  • Prescriptive
Giving advice, being judgemental, critical, evaluative.
  • Informative
    Being didactic, informative, interpretive.
  • Confronting
Challenging, providing direct feedback to the client.

Facilitative interventions

  • Cathartic
Encouraging the client to release tension in laughter, crying, trembling and storming.
  • Catalytic
Being reflective, encouraging self-directed problem solving.
  • Supportive
Being approving, confirming and validating the client as a human being.
A supportive intervention affirms the value and worth of the individual.
