Adjustment Disorders

An adjustment disorder occurs when someone is unable to adjust to or cope with a particular stressor, like a major life event.
It is also called situational depression.

They represent maladaptive responses to identifiable psychological stressors.
Predominant symptoms in adjustment disorders are mild depression, anxiety symptoms, and traumatic stress symptoms.

The condition is different from an anxiety disorder, which lacks the presence of a stressor, or a post-traumatic stress disorder and an acute stress disorder, which usually are associated with a more intense stressor.
